If you need to do some currency conversions when you are on the go, and you are nowhere near a computer with internet access, then there is an easy way to do this if you have a smart phone such as a BlackBerry, T-Mobile G1, or a Motorola Q.All you need to do is download one of the following apps, and youre good to go!

BlackBerry users should try and get hold of an app called Worldmate Live, which is available from the BlackBerry App World service. You will need to download App World to your BlackBerry first. This requires a trackball and a BlackBerry operating system version 4.2 or later, and takes around ten minutes to set up. After installation, simply go into App World and search for Worldmate Live. The app itself should take no longer than three minutes to set install after downloading.

Worldmate Live can boast up to date information about over 160 currencies, plus weather information, an international clothing size comparison chart, and an itinerary organiser.

If you have a phone that runs on the Google Android operating system, such as the T Mobile G1 or the HTC Magic can get an app known as aCurrency, which takes less than a minute to download, and gives you details of over a hundred and sixty currencies.

You can download aCurrency directly onto your phone via the Android Market, Googles own version of the iTunes App Store. You can get it by searching for the word Currency and then clicking on the aCurrency download when it appears. The most impressive feature of aCurrency is that it automatically updates itself every time it starts, as long as an internet connection is present.

If you have a Windows Mobile-equipped smartphone, such as a Samsung Blackjack or a Motorola Q, then you might want to try Worldmate Live, which is basically an adapted version of the BlackBerry application mentioned above.

Simply go to the worldmate.com website, either on your smartphone or your PC, and choose to download this app to your phone through a link in an email or text message. It will take around ten minutes to download from there, but after that, you are ready to start checking out the exchange rates.

It may seem fairly obvious, but it is important to remember that you will not be able to get up to date information if you are not getting reception on your phone, so unless you are only looking for an approximate figure, make sure that you are getting reception before you start any of these apps, or you will be presented with old data.
